Mr Spanners is an Authorised Safety Certificate Inspection Centre
In Queensland you are required by law to get a safety certificate if you want to sell a vehicle. Before you advertise your car, motorbike, trailer or any light vehicle for sale you must display a Safety Certificate or risk getting an on the spot fine. Book A Service | Contact Us for a Quote
There are some exemptions from this such as:
- when the vehicle is being sold in an exempt area
- when the vehicle is being sold to a beneficiary of a deceased estate
- when the vehicle is being sold between spouses, including separated spouses
- when the vehicle is being sold in remote locations
For private sellers, safety certificates may be used for one transfer of registration provided they are within the two months or 2000 kilometres limit, whichever comes first. A new safety certificate is required each time you sell the vehicle even if it is within the two months or 2000 kilometres.
A single safety certificate cannot be used for two transfers.
The above is not an exhaustive list of exemptions or rules , for more information about Queensland safety certificates phone the Department of Transport and Main Roads on 13 23 80
